British Blue Culls Cows In Demand at Gisburn

Cull cows topped at £2265.60 for the Champion, a British Blue cow at Gisburn Auction Marts Christmas show. Exhibited by Messrs. Walker, Dunsop Bridge, the 7 ½ year old cow, weighing 960gs was knocked down to Pickstock Ashby Ltd, Telford, Shropshire. Next best in the bidding stakes at £1881.60 was Chris Akrigg, Buckden, with his 9 ½ year old British Blue cow, which weighed 896kgs and sold for 210p/kg.

Flying Trade for Blue Cull Cows

At Kirkby Stephen Mart topping the sale at 225.5p/kg was an excellent British Blue cow from Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange and was purchased by Owain Llyr, Ruthin.
At Penrith & District Farmers Mart, a British Blue cow from W Richardson & Son, Ghyll House sold for 195.5p per kg again purchased by Owain Llyr, Ruthin.

British Blues Lead the Charge at Market Drayton

British Blues sold on a blistering trade at Market Drayton on 22nd September, selling to 234p from Mr. A.G. Tomkinson, Ashbourne. In the bull section, British Blue’s dominated, selling to 188p from Messrs. W.S. & P.M. Bartram and from Peter Clifton, a Blue to 186p.

Blue Cull Cows Top £2,265 at Market Drayton

26th March 2014
Richard Aston of Lower Dudnil Farm, Cleobury Mortimer, had two cull cows through the ring at Market Drayton on Monday 24th March. One, 10-year old cow, weighed in at 858 kilo’s, making 2.23p/kg, realising £1,930. Following her in the ring was an 11-year old cow, weighing in at 956 kilo’s, making 2.37p/kg realising £2,265. This is a tremendous value for a cull, at the end of a long and productive life!

British Blue Crosses Wipe the Board in Cornish Primestocks 2012

Gail Ellis of the Trencrom Herd of British Blues at St Ives, has won the prestigious Royal Cornwall Show Winter Prime Stock Show Points Competition with her entries at:-

Helston Primestock Show Champion won by a British Blue x steer. Wadebridge Primestock Show Champion a British Blue x Heifer. Truro Primestock Reserve Champion - British Blue. Blue X Heifer also won two cups a the Helston Primestock Show Championship.

All these three British Blue x homebred animal went on to be sold to local butchers Robert Trevarthen and Chris Dale for £4.00 p/kg, £3.70p/kg & £3.60 p/kg; all three animals graded E3.
