British Blue Steer Tops Skipton Primestock Show

The 2016 Prime Show season opened at Skipton Auction Mart with a high quality entry of 59 cattle on Monday 4th January and a good show of buyers.

It was the Reserve Champion and first prize steer, a homebred British Blue X from Gary Lodge, Malham Moor, which made the top price of £1483.

Jim Baines of Trawden took the championship, with his Limousin heifer catching the eye of judge Jonathan Townley from Clapham and realising £1479

British Blues top Rearing Calf Sale

Also this day, the first Rearing Calf Sale of the year at Skipton Auction Mart saw 123 quality calves through the ring.

Joe Ogden of Cowling judged the pre-sale show and picked out two classy British Blues shown by Shaun Sowray of Bishop Thornton as the champion and reserve, a pair of six-week old homebreds from Genus bulls.

In the ring, top price went to Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey with a big British Blue bull fetching £400.

Fred Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises chased close behind with another run of quality calves topping at £395.
