British Blue Calves "on Fire" at Gisburn Easter Show

Gisburn Marts had 183 Calves and Stirks forward at their Easter Calf Show and Sale held on Thursday 17th April, which was kindly sponsored by Genus Breeding.

Judge, David Albutt picked out a Chestnuts Umpire sired British Blue bull calf from regular vendor Doug Graves, Armathwaite, Carlisle which went onto sell for the top price of the day at £490 to Chris Baxter, Leeds.

23 blue bulls averaged £376 with half of them achieving sale prices over £400!

Next highest from Colin Whitelock, Gargrave at £455 and £452, closely followed by Harry Raw, Eastburn at £450 and £445 all going to pastures new in north Wales.

Blue heifers were “on fire” – the lowest price was £290, the highest at £400 for the first prize heifer and overall reserve champion from Colin Whitelock, Gargrave, Skipton with a five week old calf out of a Holstein Friesian dam and sired by Mr Whitelock’s stock bull Swinden Moor E by Gum selling to Messrs Clark, Sheffield.
