British Blues lead the way at North West Auctions Sales

nwaNorth West Auctions held its weekly sale of store and breeding stock on Thursday 8th January with prize awards kindly donated by the British Blue Cattle Society for the highest priced animal sold in each of the sales.

The day commenced with the weekly sale of rearing calves which saw a record entry forward at the J36 Rural Auction Centre, a total of 23 of the 92 calves forward were sired by British Blue Bulls. The prize tankard was awarded to W & S Airey Whittington who's run of calves topped the market at £430 for a Bull calf with the heifer calves selling to £340 from J & S Wilson, Millom.

The first sale of store cattle in 2015 saw an abundance of buyers ringside eagerly bidding on all stock forward. A consignment of yearlings from S Proctor, Selside attracted keen interest which saw bullocks sell to the day’s top price of £1140 and his heifers to £1020.

The weekly sale of cattle at Lancaster Auction Mart saw over 600 head of cattle forward with British Blue sired cattle once again commanding a premium. Bullocks from P Lawrenson, Chorley sold to £1150 with the rearing calves twice hitting £400 from AJ & AJ Gibbons, St Michaels and P Halhead, Cockerham.
