Strong Demand for British Blues at Holsworthy

Calves & Stirks – British Blue calves topped the market at £385 for a good British Blue x bull sold by Mr G W Thorne from Umberleigh. Followed closely by Messrs JR & MJ Ovens, Halwill with another good young British Blue x bull to £370, with several others making over £360. 16 British Blue bulls topped at £385 and averaged £262.63 and 19 heifers topping at £365 and averaging £216.37

Store Cattle – Blue steers hit a top price £820 with three good British Blues from James Melville. Young 5-month old British Blue steers reached £500 and 6-month old heifers to £430. Messrs Elliott, Henscott saw his consignment of 29 quality 9-13month old British Blue x steers average £690 and heifers £660. 36 British Blue heifers and steers averaged £610 and £685 respectively.

Calves and Stirks - top price this week was £370 for a smart young British Blue x bull sold by Messrs RC & TA Mitchell from Clawton. Moorview Farm, Milton Damerel sold another good young British Blue x bull for £345 with numerous others over the £300 mark. 21 British Blue bulls topped at £370 and averaged £273.57, and 21 heifers topped at £315 and averaged £212.71.

The winner of the Genus price for the highest priced calf sired by a Genus bull calf was Moorview Farm, Milton Damerel with a British Blue sired by Moorsley Anderson achieving £345 in the heifer section.

Store Cattle – Blue steers reached a top price of £775 and heifers at £608.
