Herd Competition 2010

The Border British Blue Club staged their Second Annual Herd Competition in July. The competition was open to all fully paid up members of the Border British Blue Club.

presentation

The herds were split into two categories (small and large herds). Large herd was a herd that registers more than 10 calves a year and small herd is a herd that registers less than 10 calves a year into the British Blue herd book.

The club would like to thank Agi-Lloyd and NWF for the sponsorship of this event.

The Judge Allan Wilkinson (Springfield Herd) had the very difficult task of judging the event. Allan would like to thank all that entered for their hospitality and commented that the scenery throughout the different parts of Cumbria and the Borders was amazing, he gave Brian Wheatley a special thanks for taking the time to escort him and Deirdre around all the herds entered into the competition. The small herd was won once again by Neil and Irene Armstrong (Goodyhills). The winner of the large herd went to the Watret family (Solway View). The Solway View herd went on to win the Overall Herd Competition.

The prize giving took place on Sunday 15th August at Sharplaw, Hownam, Kelso by kind permission of Mick Gamble & Sarah Rigg. We started the day however, at Bowsden Moor, Berwick Upon Tweed by kind permission of Messrs Redhead & Watson for a farm walk. We then moved onto Sharplaw in the afternoon.

A Hogg Roast and refreshments finished the day along with the prize giving.

The Border Club would like to thank everyone who helped make the Herd Competition a great success.
