The Annual British Blue Society Show & Sale was held at Carlisle on Friday 24th January 2020 and saw a great demand for bulls with the resulting average being up nearly £400 on the previous year.

Auchenlay Nimrod - Supreme Champion sold for 10,000 gns

The Championship at the pre-sale show was won by R & M Paterson’s Auchenlay Nimrod who had also won Male Champion at both the Highland and Royal Welsh Shows last year. This bull was sired by Sandyvale Jagerbomb and out of Auchenlay Hope. Nimrod went on to sell for the joint top price of the sale, 10,000gns, to an undisclosed buyer.

Also at 10,000gns was JC Walker & Son’s Brennand Nugget sired by Tweeddale Ebony and out of Brennand Icandy. Nugget had won 2nd prize in his class at the pre-sale show and was purchased by Messrs Carr from Gunnerton, Hexham.

At 9000gns was the Reserve Male Champion Stonebyres Navigator from A & S Comrie’s Lanarkshire based herd. Navigator, sired by Kelowna Jimbo and out of Stonebyres Gem, was purchased by Aucheneck Estates, Stirling.

Ross & Elaine Pattinson sold their 2nd prize winning bull Top Side Noah for 8000gns to Messrs Hyslop from Abington, Lanarkshire. Noah was sired by Naby Golddust and out of Rathlyon Dinah

Another from the same home went for 7500gns. This was Top Side Nik Nak sired by Top Side Joey and out of Stowbeck Edwina. Nik Nak had won his class in the pre-sale show and went on to be purchased by Messrs Hall from Buxton, Derbyshire.

Dinmore Nolimits from PR Dawes sold for 7000gns. This bull was sired by Valdes Van De Sluizenweg and out of Paulern Carol. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs Brown from Newark, Nottinghamshire, to join their Beckside herd.

Females sold to a top of 4500gns for the Female Champion and Reserve Overall Champion Foxhill Olala consigned by Charlotte Alford. This March, all white, 2019 born heifer was sired by Affute Du Ry Ossogne and out of the prolific show winner Rhymil Kylie. She was purchased by Messrs Gill from Keswick.

The Reserve Female Championship was won by AM & E Hartley’s Pendle Nice Ice Baby, an October 2018 born heifer sired by Heros Du Peroy. This heifer want on to sell for 4000gns to Messrs Hunter from Annan.

Averages – 25 Bulls £5006.40; 13 Maiden Heifers £2600.77; 2 Cows served and/or suckling £2677.50
