Calf Show & Young Handler Competition 2014


The Northern Ireland Blue Cattle Club held their 8th Annual Calf Show and Young Handler Competition on Saturday 2nd August 2014 at Downpatrick Co-operative Mart.

Sponsored by Donnelly Group, the calf show attracts great support and enthusiasm from the competitors. The competition was open to calves registered from May 2013 with judging in the capable hands of the well-known Mr Samuel Cleland from Downpatrick.

Class for 0-3 months winner was Springhill Just a Girl ET from sire Imperial de L’Ecluse and dam Springhill Golden Girl ET, owned by Martin Bros, Newtownards.

Class for 4-6 months winner was Ballyhossett Jasmine from sire Ballyhossett Glyn ET and dam Ballyhossett Gaby ET, owned by Jason & Jennifer Edgar, Downpatrick.

Class for 7-9 months winner was Springhill Isaac ET from sire Intrepide du Stordeur and dam Lessive de Denvill, owned by Martin Bros, Newtownards.

Class for 10-12 months winner was Rahoon Holly from sire Adajio and dam Corrandidla Elaine, owned by Sam Robinson, Crossgar.

Class for 13-15 months winner was Knockagh Illusion from sire Springbank Blackstar and dam Knockagh Alleycat owned by Jim Ervine, Newtownabbey.

Male champion was Springhill Isaac and Female Champion was Rahoon Holly who went on to take Overall Champion with Knockagh Illusion as Reserve Overall Champion.

Young Handler Competition

Kindly sponsored by Bank of Ireland, William Thompson was present to congratulate the winners. The competition was split into three different age groups for the young members to show their expertise and knowledge of their calves. The entrants proudly lead their calves round the ring and presented themselves to Sam for judging.

First place winner in age group 0-8 was Lewis Robinson from Crossgar. First place in age group 9-12 was Christopher Robinson from Crossgar. First place in age group 13-16 was Katrina Killen from Crossgar. All entrants received a Northern Ireland Blue Cattle Club medal with plaques for the first place winners.

The club chairman, Jason Edgar thanked Sam for judging these events and presented him with a gift. He thanked Donnelly Group and Bank of Ireland for their sponsorship and concluded with thanks to the club members for their support.
