Ruthin Show Potentials top at £3750 for British Blue sired heifer

20th February 2021

While commercial cattle exhibitors are forever hopeful of some livestock shows to look forward to this year, a smaller than usual offering of calves were present at Ruthin Farmers Auction on Saturday with prices understandably back on previous years.

Posh Spice
Lot 28 – top priced overall Posh Spice from David John Lloyd and Co, by Dragon Blues Mike, sold for £3750

Nevertheless, quality prevailed and top of the day was a striking black heifer from David John Lloyd and Co, Trefeglwys, Caersws. Posh Spice is an August 2020-born British Blue cross heifer by Dragon Blues Mike, who was purchased in Carlisle for 16,000gns in 2019 having stood reserve overall champion. Taking this heifer home at £3750 were B L and J E Griffiths, Newtown, Powys.

Regular Ruthin consignors J M and A M Lewis, Llanwrda, Carmarthen, saw a top price of £2900 for their pen of six calves with their leader being Gossip Girl, a Limousin cross heifer by Bailea Spunkie out of a pedigree British Blue cow. Taking this one home for further showing was James May, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

Lockdown Lady
Lot 6 – second highest price Blue, Lockdown Lady from JM and AM Lewis, by Dragon Blues Firefly, sold for £2750

Next best from this pen with a call of £2750 was a British Blue cross heifer, Lockdown Lady, which sold to Phil and Sharon Sellers, Lincoln. This one is by the herd stock bull Dragon Blues Firefly.
