Borderway Online Auction Deemed a Success

Friday 15th - Tuesday 19th May 2020

The Annual British Blue Society & Border Club Spring Sale was held in the form of an Online Timed Auction due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. The sale was deemed a success with a bull average of £4941 for 28 sold and 8 lots going for £6000 plus.

Topping the sale at £12,000 was Dragon Blues Night

Topping the sale at £12,000 was Dragon Blues Night from GW & K Williams’ Lampeter based herd. Night was sired by Joujou De Petit Brin and out of the Bringlee Volkawagon daughter Dragon Blues Beca. He was purchased by an undisclosed buyer.

Henry Jewitt’s Tweed Navigator sold for the next best price of £8800. This bull, originally bred by Jayne & Jonathan Watson was sired by Tweeddale Gee Whiz and out of Oak Tree Lucy a daughter of 12,000gns Tweeddale Hamish. Navigator was purchased by Messrs Francis from Newtown, Powys.

Following closely behind this at £8200 was Northern Ireland based J & S Martin’s Springhill Nuggett. Nuggett, an April 2018 born bull, was sired by Solway View Dynamite and an ET son of Springhill Golden Girl. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs Harrison from Penrith.

Ruaig Northern Star from A & I MacInnes sold for £7000. Sired by Tenace De La Praule and out of the multi show winner Pendle Knock Em Out, Northern Star was purchased by Messrs Walt on from Hexham, Northumberland.

Two bulls sold for £6600, the first of these was CF & Miss C Beal’s Abbey View News Hawk. Sired by Farouk De St Amand, News Hawk is an ET son of Tweeddale Hawk Eye who has an excellent how record including being the first British Blue to win Interbreed Champion at the Great Yorkshire Show. News Hawk is off to a new home with Messrs Renton from Morpeth, Northumberland.

The other bull to sell at the same money was GL Morgan’s Almeley New Balance sired by Pinnacle Hero and out of Almeley Jade. New Balance was purchased by Messrs Bowen from Tredegar, Gwent.

The Royal Welsh Show’s 2019 Reserve Male Champion, Haughton Nevada sold for £6400. Consigned by Miss H Wilson Nevada is sired by Gitan Du Pti’t Mayeur and out of Wraite Trisha. He was purchased by Messrs Quick from Crediton, Devon.

HR & WJ Maudsley’s Littlebank Ned was the final bull to break the £6000 mark when he went for £6200. Another sired by the prolific Farouk De St Amand, Ned is an ET son of Littlebank Kimberley who was sired by Heros Du Peroy. On this occasion the virtual hammer was knocked down to Messrs Simpson from Blairgowrie, Perthshire.

Best of the females on offer was Trencrom Narnia from EA & DA Ellis’ St Ives based herd. This June 2018 born heifer was sired by Ballydangan Hectare and out of the consistent breeding Trencrom Hotshot. Narnia had won her class at Devon County Show last year in her only outing. The successful purchaser on this occasion was Messrs Hough from Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

Kevin Watret sold the only cow in the sale for £5400. This was Solway View Kitty sired by Solway View Dynamite and out of Solway View Euphoria making her a full sister to Royal Highland Show Champion Solway View Illusion. She was sold in calf to Greystone Kelloggs and purchased by Messrs Robinson of Co Down, Northern Ireland.
