Border British Blue Club Open Calf ShowFriday 29th October 2010 The Border British Blue Club staged their third annual open calf show on Friday 29th October 2010 at the Borderway Agri-Expo 2010 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when there was a catalogued entry of 72 calves. This was made up of 38 males and 34 females all UK born pedigree registered calves born on or after 1st October 2009. The club would like to thank the sponsors of this event, Norbreck Genetics who supplied the prize money and the club provided the rosettes and coffee on the stand. Trophies Chairman Steve Pattinson would like to thank all those who supplied cattle for the British Blue stand at the Agri-Expo they certainly generated a lot of interest and were a great spectacle for the breed. He would also like to say a big thank you to all those who helped on the Blue stand. It was very much appreciated.
The Judge, Ted Haste, (Stoneleigh Herd) commented that there was an outstanding show and that it was an honour to judge such wonderful, high quality cattle that you could find nowhere else in the country. He said that it ran like clockwork thanks to the ring steward Stephen Brough.
The overall championship was awarded to Norbreck Genetics Ltd with Norbreck Fergus a January 2010, exceptionally well grown, blue and white son of Empire D’Ochain (IS) and out of Tamhorn Ursa ET. Alan Dickinson brother of the late David Dickinson (official society auctioneer to the British Blue Cattle Society 1989-2007) presented the David Dickinson memorial trophy to Norbreck Genetics Ltd. The reserve overall championship went to Graham Jones with Graymar Europe ET a November 2009, well grown son of Sjaka Zoeloe Van Zwaanhof (IS) and out of the Royal Deeside Abigail flush. The BK Ryder Memorial Trophy for the reserve overall champion animal was presented to Graham Jones. The Bellas family presented the Bellas Trophy for the best animal opposite sex to the champion to Redhead & Watson with Tweeddale Emise ET a December 2009 daughter of Colos Van Daisel (IS) and out of the Emise De L Happe flush.
The young handler class was won by Lucy Corner leading Maidenlands Fernando. Adam Henson, from Adams’ Farm on Country File made a surprise appearance to present all of the Young Handlers with a rosette and Lucy Corner won the Pendle plaque.
TH Mountford and D & J Wyllie won the Progeny group with two Ballygrange Alex calves. Hartley Emperor (4th in his class) out of Hemingby Cindy and Tamhorn Emerald ET (3rd in her class) out of Tamhorn Buttercup ET. The reserve progeny group went to two Empire D’Ochain (IS) bred calves shown by TC & CA Altham and Graham Jones. The first was Lune Valley Ego ET (5th in his class), and the second, Graymar Fantasia ET (1st in her class). Phil Halhead presented the Norbreck Genetics perpetual trophy for the breeder with the most points to Redhead & Watson (Tweeddale Herd) Class prize winners were as follows: - Class 1) male born between 01.10.09 and 15.11.09: Class 2) male born between
