2008 Border club calf show

Pendle Herd casts a spell on the Borders Calf Show

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 20th 2008

The Pendle herd of Mark and Elaine Hartley along with Isabella and Thomas was awarded many of the honours by judge Ernie Hemmings at the Border Club’s calf show on the 20th February 2008.

With Mark leading him, 12 months old Pendle Catterpillar, by Serum D’Anloy out of home bred Pendle Wave, won his class and then went on to become Champion Male followed by the Overall Champion.

Thomas took charge of Pendle Churchill a 4 months old son of herd sire Blue Stone Union Jack out of Pendle Trixy with Isabella acting as herdsman. In a very strongly competitive class against many quality bull calves led by much older handlers the trio stood a very creditable 4th.

Elaine’s charge for the day was Pendle Cauldron a ten months old heifer by Blue Stone Union Jack out of Pendle Robinea and Isabella took charge of 10 months old Pendle Cocopop also by Blue Stone Union Jack but this time out of Bannister Tatum.

Competing in the same class Pendle Cocopop was placed third and Pendle Cauldron fourth.

Following these successes Thomas and Isabella entered the young handler’s class leading Pendle Churchill and Pendle Cocopop respectively. This time Thomas came out on top being awarded the Champion Young Handlers title. Isabella was placed a creditable fourth with her heifer taking a little persuasion to take this class as seriously as the previous ones!

Not to be outdone Allan and Deirdre Wilkinson also had successes taking first place in the younger heifer class with Springfield Carrera a 9 months old daughter of Felicien De Courriaulx out of Ovatie Van De Wolvendree.

In the progeny class they teamed Springfield Carrera with Solway View Cinderella, out of Annanwater Vera, and these two Felicien De Courriaulx daughters took third place.
