The North West Midlands and North Wales Limousin Breeders Club held their 25th Anniversary show at the same event and not surprisingly with over seventy cattle to choose from they took the Interbreed Group of Four title. However, the Belgian Blue exhibitors in consultation with breed judge Rhys Jenkins had the confidence to choose the only junior team to compete in the class.

The team of John Okell’s two heifers, 13 month old Annanwater Bridget an Elogieux Fond Du Chene daughter out of Springfield Tinga and 11 month-old Birdswood Bosside a Baroque De Lecluse daughter out of Birdswood Vision, with another 14 month-old Baroque daughter, Cowden Bounty out of Bannister Kate from Boomer Birch and Matthew Jones’s 14 month-old Bringlee Banjo by Immense de Bearaing out of Bringlee Viv rose to the occasion and were awarded the reserve tickets in a very strongly contested class.

In the Commercial Beef section Jim Hollingsworth was awarded the Overall Commercial Beef Championship rosette under judge Mr D Thornley of Derbyshire.

Junior club member 7 year-old Thomas Okell entered the Young Showmanship and Open Calf classes leading the family’s 7 month-old bull calf, Birdswood Breeze, by Baroque De Lecluse out of Birdswood Vicky, in the Best Beef Calf under 9 months of age class, and was rewarded with second place. Thomas then carried the breed nameplate in front of the Belgian Blue cattle in the Grand Parade, quite an achievement for one so young considering the weight of the nameplate and the swirling wind that was blowing across the arena.
