2006 calf show |
North West Calf Show 2006MONDAY FEBRUARY 6th 2006 Monday 6th February 2006 saw eight of the North West’s premier exhibitors competing at the North West Club Calf Show held at the Chelford Agricultural Centre by kind permission of Frank R Marshall & Co. With twenty-three young stock forward many spectators around the ring expressed the opinion that this was one of the most impressive gatherings of young British Belgian Blue cattle to be seen for some time. The top honours went to the Springfield herd of Allan and Deirdre Wilkinson. Judged by Eddie Astbury, the former herd manager of the late Lord Leverhulme’s British Belgium Blues, their 13 months old bull Springfield Asher took both the Male and Supreme Championships and their 13 months old heifer Springfield Anastasia took the Female Champion and Reserve Supreme tickets. Asher and Anastasia were both sired by Dafydd D’Ochain, one of Norbreck Genetics top AI bulls, out of the Wilkinson’s quality females Springfield Pepsi and Ovatie Van De Wolvendreef respectively. Philip Halhead of Norbreck Genetics, himself a north west club member, had earlier in the day flown in from a business trip to the USA, but soon dispelled any thoughts of jet lag as he presented Allan and Deirdre Wilkinson with the North West Club trophy, which he sponsors, and his donated prize of three of Dafydd’s much sought after AI straws. Jane & Danny Wyllie took both the Male and Female reserve tickets with Tamhorn Affute a 13 month-old son of Tamhorn Sumo out of Noirette Du Fond De Bois and Tamhorn Anya an eight month old daughter of Affute Du Ry Ossogne out of Vina Van De Wolvendreef. The Champion Crossbred was Elaine and Mark Hartley’s Pendle herd’s 11 month-old heifer sired by their stock bull Blue Stone Union Jack. In the 12 years and under Young Handler class the judged commented that it was very difficult to separate such professional handling of the young stock on their first outings, placing Isabella Hartley first, younger brother Thomas second, and awarding joint third place to brothers Jack and Tom Belfield of the Boothlow herd. Full results: Class 2 (Male born 01.07.05 to 31.12.05) Class 4a (Female born 01.01.05 to 31.03.05) Class 4b (Female born 01.04.05 to 30.06.05) Class 9 (Crossbred female born 01.01.05 to 31.12.05) Class 11 (Young Handler 12 years and under) Male Champion & Supreme SPRINGFIELD Asher |
