North West Club Members Pass the Test at Beeston
8th & 9th March 2008
Many North West Club members were amply rewarded with their forbearance
of the restrictions that cancelled the autumn sale last September and
taking advantage of the vector free period had their cattle ‘bluetongue
tested’ so that they could travel anywhere outside the surveillance
zones. Although in unfamiliar surroundings but under the guidance of
Society auctioneers Gwyn Williams and Jonathan Farrell and the usual
Frank
R Marshall staff the following North West Club members were delighted
with the packed rings of prospective buyers and managed to move their
quality cattle on to new homes.
Leading the way was the outstanding bull Boothlow Batman from Janet
and Keith Belfield. Described by Keith and Janet as ‘probably the best
bull we have bred’ this 21 months old son of Affute Du Ry Ossogne,
out of their Justesse Te D’Argenton daughter Boothlow Rachel, attracted
frenetic bidding from the start and received a well deserved round of
applause when the hammer finally fell at 9,200gns.
Janet and Keith also sold Boothlow Blak a 24 months old Blak Du Baty
D’Eprave son out of Four Oaks Rachel, for 3,700gns and Boothlow
Arnie a 30 months old Negre Du Homme son out of Obstinee De Ronvaux,
for 2,300gns.

Bringlee Banjo

The next highest price for the North West
was paid for Graham
and Matthew Jones’s Bringlee Banjo. This
24 months old son of Immense De Beauraing out of Bringlee Viv had originally
been bought as a calf at the foot of his dam Bringlee Viv. During his
legislation curtailed show career in 2007 he had won the Male Championship
at the Royal Welsh Show. Spirited bidding from the off saw him finally
knocked down at 5,400gns. Not having reached their valuation their
first homebred bull 19 months old Graymar Bright Star, by Three Ways
Superstar out of Paulern Vala, was withdrawn from the ring at 3,100gns.

Next amongst the higher prices came Mark
and Elaine Hartley’s
Pendle Bobby. This 23 months old son by their herd sire Blue Stone Union
Jack out of homebred Pendle Tulip attracted keen bidding before the hammer
fell at 5,100gns. Mark and Elaine also sold Pendle Bannister another
23 months old son of Union Jack this time out of Bannister Tatum for
2,500gns.
Jane and Danny
Wyllie sold Tamhorn Barney a 24 months old son of Savant
De Pierrecome out of Humble De Miecret for 3,200gns but withdrew Tamhorn
Buster, a Ridge Dean Mahogany son out of Ridge Dean Supreme, from the
ring at 2,700gns not having reached their valuation of this highly thought
of bull.

Tandy x Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur,
for 2,000gns each with both due to calve in late April.
Boomer Birch sold Boomer Chanel a 13 months old daughter of Blak Du
Baty D’Eprave out of his show heifer Cerise Neuve Cour for 2,900gns.
Boomer also offered an outstanding 12 months old crossbred steer by Norbreck
Superman out of a Limousin, which had won the Champion Steer class and
been judged Overall Reserve Commercial Champion the previous evening
by Judge John Hall. After non-stop bidding the steer sold for £2,450.

of Burton Opal he withdrew this highly thought of in calf cow from the
ring at 2,800gns not having reached the valuation he places her. Sabrina,
Rhonda and Walnut are due to calve to Immense De Beauraing in April.
In the commercial section Paul Walker sold an 18 months old all black
crossbred heifer by Bringlee Talbot out of a Limousin. After keen bidding
the hammer fell at £2,000.
Also in the commercial section, Jackie Smith offered two heifers, one
27 months old and 4 months in calf to a Limousin and the other 10 months
old, both by Alambic De Baillonville out of British Blue crossbred cows
and these sold for £1,550 and £1,000 respectively.
The unluckiest club member award must go to Alan Bromyard who had had
an inconclusive test on his 19 months old bull Inishfree Bilbo necessitating
a repeat test the negative results of which came back too late for him
to travel.
