A packed ring, bursting with keen interest, saw the commencement of the Northern Ireland Blue Cattle Club, spring show and sale at Dungannon Farmers Mart on Saturday 29th March 2008.

Auctioneer Trevor Wyllie secured a leading sale price of 4200gns for, Reserve Male Champion, ‘Ballydougan Brandy’, a son of ‘Tamhorn Sumo’ out of ‘Chatham Utility’, bred and exhibited by Barry Chambers, Portadaown, County Armag, being exported to the south, to James Winters, Drogheda, County Louth.

In the show ring the day went to ‘Ballylucas Buster’, a son of Dafydd D’Ochain out of ‘Ballylucas Trish’, bred and exhibited by Downpatrick breeder Sam Cleland, with ’Judge, Sam Milliken putting him up as his Supreme Champion. He was later sold to G Cowan, Clogher, County Tyrone for 3500gns.

The Reserve Supreme Champion rosette going to ‘Springhill Violet’ and her calf ‘Springhill Codey’; ‘Violet’, a son of ‘Visconti De St Fontaine’ , out of ‘Springhill Primrose’ found a new stable, again, with G Cowan, County Tyrone.

Jim Ervine, NI Club chairman, with daughter Laura took the Reserve Female Championship with ‘Knockagh Broadband ET’, a son of ‘Jaguar De Pierrecome’ out of ‘Knockagh Vapour’, later being sold to W R Neil, Crossgar, County Down.

Auctioneer, Trevor Wyllie commented; ‘There was a steady trade, with quality being strongly reflected in the bidding’.
