NEAR SELL OUT OF BELGIAN BLUES AT DUNGANNON

Supreme Champion - Bessy Bell Scooby Doo ET

The Inaugural sale of pedigree Belgian Blue cattle, organised by the Northern Ireland Blue Cattle Club, was a near sell out with 17 bulls being sold out of the 20 forward.

The judge, Richard Carruthers, from the “Valley“ Herd, near Penrith, Cumbria, put up “Bessy Bell Scooby Doo ET,” a son of “Totem De Chocquenee” bred by Adrian & Andrew McKelvey from Co Tyrone, as Supreme Champion. The Reserve Championship going to “Mountjoy Trooper ET,” a son of “Seduisant De Fooz,” bred by Desmond Mcaskie of Omagh. The spectators around the showring were treated to a tremendous display of quality animals.

Auctioneer, Trevor Wyllie, opened the bidding to a packed ringside. Top price went to “Chatham Silver,” a son of “Lenborough Oliver” at 3,100 gns to Adrian Wilson of Ballymena. Following close on his heels was “Greenfield Totem,” bred by Basil Dougherty, a “Gribouille De La Bonne Raie” son, being knocked down at 3000 gns to W T McFarland of Beragh, Co Tyrone. The Champion “Bessy Bell Scooby Do ET” finding a new home with P McMullen, Ballymena at 2700 gns.

An October 2000 born heifer “Chatham Susie” out of “Railway View Hector” topped the females at 2500 gns, to Barry Chambers, Portadown. A cow “Bannview Olga,” out of “Lawns Gentleman Jim ET” with a July born calf at foot, “Bannview Ursula” was knocked down at 1400 gns to Alec Ferguson of Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone.

The Society Secretary, John Fleming, commented “A near sell out of bulls and the respectable averages achieved, had led to a strong trade, bearing in mind the circumstances the pedigree industry finds itself this autumn.”
