There was keen interest in the pens, for the small consignment of quality British Blue bulls on offer, at this Springs Stirling Bull Sales.

The Judge, Ian Wainwright of Todhall Farm, Cupar, Fife put up as his Champion, Auchenlay Glenisla, from R & M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay, Dunblane. An Almeley Webster 2 son, out of Auchenlay Bianca, Glenisla’s EBV’s being in the top 10% for Calving Ease and low Birth Weight. Following frantic bidding, he was knocked down for the leading price of 7,000gns, to Messrs. Muir, Stenness, Stromess, Orkney.

The Reserve Champion, Kenray Garfield from Kenny Hill, Carluke, with natural calving bloodlines, out of Kenray Diamond by Visconti De St Fontaine. This animal was bid to 5,800gns but left the ring unsold.

Croftends G Force ET, from Andrew & Jonty Bellas, Appleby, was knocked down at 5,700gns to Garthbeg Farms, Perth. Out of Croftends Black Beauty by Croftends Bruno, this fine bull with EBV’s in the top 10% for Growth, Rib Fat and Retail Meat Yield, with a Carcase Yield Index in the top 5% of the breed.

Following up was Auchenlay Glenalmond again from R & M Paterson, another Almeley Webster 2 son, out of Carrachan Almond. Glenalmond having Calving Ease, Birth Weight and Scrotal Size EBV’s in the top 10% of the breed, he finds a home with Laird & Son, Cumnock, Ayrshire at 4,500gns.

Last but by no means least, was Auchenlay Gerry, purchased by Messrs. Ross, Invergordon, Ross-shire for 3,500gns. Gerry having a Carcass Yield Index, Pedigree Breeding Index and Eye Muscle EBV in the top 10% of the breed, with very respectable growth EBV’s and out of an easy calving bloodline.
