North West Open Calf Show 2010
The North West Club held their annual open calf show at Chelford on Saturday 4th September by kind permission of Frank Marshall & Co and generously sponsored by Les Wilson Agricultural Services of Nottingham. Forty-nine calves from sixteen individual herds were entered in the classes for homebred calves 12 months of age and under. Les Wilson was unable to attend and Steph Denny of Farmers Guardian stepped in at the last minute to present the prizes on his behalf. Show judge Linda Morgan, Powys commented that every class was full of quality youngstock and awarded the Female and Overall Championship to Tanat Ebony an 8 months old black and white heifer by Bringlee Waldo out of Bringlee Welancee from new member Wyn Jones of Llanrhaeadr Um, Nr Oswestry. This calf showed exceptional promise for her age and should make a real name for herself on next season’s show circuit.
Taking the Male Championship was Jane and Danny Wyllie’s 7 months old black and white bull calf, Tamhorn Formidable sired by Springbank Blackstar out of Gregmaur Brandy.
Wyn Jones’s Tanat Fleetwood a 5months old son of Dafydd D’Ochain out of Lukeroyal Wannita took the Reserve Male Championship and the Reserve Female Championship went to Ian & Andrew Wilson’s New Close Fantasia a Colos Van Daisel daughter out of home bred New Close Cilla Blak.
The majority of the calves on show will be going on to join their respective show teams next summer and it will be interesting to see their progress.
