The Society Annual General Meeting and Bringlee Herd Farm Walk
The North West Club was privileged to be invited to hold the Society’s
2007 AGM in our area. We were both grateful and delighted that Graham
and Jane Brindley agreed to host the event.
After the formal business and a plentiful lunch the Brindley family
offered a farm walk of the renowned Bringlee Herd to all attendees and
friends. Armed with a catalogue containing photographs and the breeding
details of the cattle, upwards of 100 interested parties were free to
wander over the fields and view what must be one of, if not the, largest
herds of Pedigree Belgian Blues.
From the suckling calves and embryo donor cows to the three stock bulls
there were plentiful cattle for the visitors to feast their eyes on.
To see Bringlee Sandy close up, grazing contentedly enjoying the pleasant
sunshine with her perhaps not so famous but nonetheless outstanding companions,
was indeed a joy.
Having watched Bringlee Waldo around the show grounds at the foot of
his mother Bringlee Sandy when a few months of age, it justified the
breeds reputation of muscle, growth and calm temperament to see him now,
seeming so short a time later, as a mature bull taking on the duties
of herd sire, and coming to the gate on the call of unfamiliar voices.
Visitors expressed their surprise and no little astonishment at the
calmness of all the cattle who turned not a hair and continued to graze
unperturbed by the onslaught of some groups of 20 or so people walking
amongst them and who were in turn able to take their time consulting
the catalogue and no doubt marking off a ‘wish list’ as they
went.
After walking off the lunch an expansive afternoon tea was provided
to sustain us on the homeward journey.
The North West Club would like to extend our thanks to all attendees,
some of whom had made very long journeys. Our most grateful and sincere
thanks must however be offered to Graham and Jane and their family for
all their considerable work in making this a very memorable occasion
which will be spoken about for a long time to come.
