North West Club Members Celebrate Successful 2011 Half-year Results


The results for the first half of 2011 could hardly have gone better for Club members as they made their presence felt both in the sale ring and on the show circuit.

At the January Society show and sale in Carlisle Graham Coates sold Greystone Escort a 21 months old son of homebred stock bull Greystone Atomic and out of Greystone Whisp for 5,200gns. Last to sell but not for the least also at 5,200gns was Geoff Walker’s 19 months old bull Brennand Emperor an Empire D’Ochain son out of out of Bringlee Sandy. These two bulls shared this top price with only one other at this sale.

In March at the Society’s Chelford show and sale Keith and Janet Belfield saw their 23 months old bull Boothlow Elvis awarded the Champion Sash and next day sold for 6,100gns. Elvis is a son of their homebred bull Boothlow Batman out of Four Oaks Olivia. The Wilson family sold their 25 months old bull New Close Emperor a Bringlee Blackstar son out of Hazelwood Tinkerbelle for 5,000gns.

May saw our members make a welcome return to the show circuit.

At the Newark and Notts show under judge Tim Walwin, Boomer Birch took the Breed Championship honours with his 28 months old heifer Boomer Euphoria a Bringlee Waldo daughter our of homebred Boomer Armani. At the same show Alan Bromyard took home the Reserve Male Champion rosette with his homebred bull Inishfree Erazmus a 24 months old son of Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur out of homebred Inishfree Willow.

Over at the Shropshire Show held on the same weekend as Newark other club members were enjoying great success under judge John Okell.

Matthew Jones took home the top honours for the breed with the Female, Exhibitor Bred and Breed Championships with his homebred Graymar Electra a 22 months old daughter of Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur out of Bringlee Beth. Standing just one place away taking Reserve Female and Reserve Breed Champion was Wyn Jones with his homebred Tanat Ebony a 17 months old daughter of Bringlee Waldo out of Bringlee Welancee. Wyn also took home the Male Champion’s rosette with Tanat Fleetwood a 14 months old son of Dafydd D’Ochain out of Lukeroyal Wannita.

On the second day Matthew Jones had another success in the Interbreed Exhibitor bred pairs with Electra joined by herd member Graymar Fantasia a 16 months old Empire D’Ochain daughter out of Bringlee Beth taking the Championship rosette. These two heifers were then joined by Tanat Ebony, Nigel Pritchard’s 15 months old heifer, Norton Fleur, a Bringlee Blackstar daughter out of homebred Norton Another Naïve and Tim Bodily’s Boomer Enchantment a 14 months old daughter of Dafydd D’Ochain out of Cerise Neuve Cour and were awarded the Reserve Interbreed Team of Five rosettes.

The following weekend saw members return to the sale ring at the Border’s show and sale in Carlisle.

This time top honours for the club went to Jane and Danny Wyllie’s two bulls. Tamhorn Fearless a 17 months old Ballygrange Alex son out of Tamhorn Vienna selling for 13,000gns and Tamhorn Flanker a 17 months old son of homebred Tamhorn Sumo out of Tamhorn Winifred selling for 10,000gns.

The Hertfordshire County Show saw Boomer Birch again taking the Female and Breed Championship with Boomer Euphoria this time under judge Danny Wyllie.

June saw a plethora of show successes for club members.

At Staffordshire County Show under judge John Griffin, Boomer Birch and his Boomer Euphoria took the Female and Breed Championship with Matthew Jones’s Graymar Electra taking both the Reserve Champion rosettes. Tim Mountford took the Male Championship with his stock bull Bringlee Derry a three years old son of Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur out of Bringlee Tandy and the Reserve Male Champion with his homebred Hartley Fonzie a 15 months old son of Bringlee Volkawagon out of homebred Hartley Clover. Andrew and Susie Wilson took the 2nd place rosettes in the pairs class with their almost identical homebred heifers 17 months old New Close Fantasia and 16 months old New Close Fizzy both are daughters of Colos Van Daisel out of homebred New Close Cilla Blak. On the second day Euphoria, Electra and Mark Froggatt’s Bringlee Ellice a sixteen months old daughter of Graphite De Dessous La Ville out of Bringlee Sandy took the Reserve Interbreed Group of Three rosettes.

Two weeks later at the East of England show under judge Graham Brindley, Matthew Jones’s Graymar Electra took the Female and Breed Championship and on the second day was awarded the overall Continental Interbreed Champion and the Reserve Supreme Beef Championship.

Just a week later at the Cheshire County Show under judge James Martin Matthew Jones was awarded Female, Breed and Exhibitor bred Champion with Graymar Electra. Tim Mountford took the reserve breed championship with Beckfarm Anne a 6 years old daughter of Wreay Tonto out of Beckfarm Rose. Tim’s homebred Hartley Fonzie took the Junior Breed Championship. Boomer Birch took the reserve Exhibitor bred Championship with Boomer Euphoria. On the second day the Wilson’s New Close duo of Fantasia and Fizzy took the Interbreed Pairs Championship and when they were joined by Boomer Birch’s Boomer Flashy a fifteen months old daughter of Ballygrange Alex out of Fatima Du Coin and John Okell’s Drift Fern a 16 months old daughter of Colos Van Daisel out of Bringlee Cherry made it third time lucky as they went on to take the Interbreed Group of Four Championship. The previous ‘Blue groups’ having been Reserve In this class for the past two years. Also on the second day Tim Mountford’s Beckfarm Anne was joined by 30 months old Hartley Danni her daughter by Twyning Ash United and they took the Interbreed Mother and Daughter Championship. To prove that our very junior members are starting their show careers at the top Thomas Okell took the family’s homebred heifer calf, Birdswood Gucci a five months old Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur daughter out of homebred Birdswood Vision, into the Beef Calf Class and competing against more mature handlers and exhibits came away with the Championship rosette. It looks as if we are seeing the emergence of even younger competent showmen!

July saw the return to Chelford for the Society’s show and sale.

Top price from the Club members was Matthew Jones’s homebred Graymar Europe a nineteen months old son of Sjaka Zoeloe Van Zwaanhof out of Royal Deeside Abigail who was knocked down at 3,800gns. Two members made 3,500gns, first Mark Hartley’s bull Newton Blues Chico and this three years old son of Reinbeck Rubin out of Bradwall Olivia was the first bull through the ring. Followed shortly afterwards by Alan Bromyard with his bull Inishfree Erazmus that judge John Hall had awarded the Reserve Male Championship on the previous evening. As mentioned previously Erazmus is a 24 months old son of Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur out of homebred Inishfree Willow. Not far behind was Andrew Wilson with his homebred bull New Close Express Star a 20 months old son of Bringlee Blackstar out of Almeley Violet who sold for 3,300gns.

In the crossbred sale Nigel Pritchard’s 6 months old heifer was awarded Reserve Crossbred Champion and sold for the top price of £1,900 through the commercial ring. Boomer Birch also sold a commercial heifer and achieved £1,380.
