Dairy Event and Livestock Show introduces NEW SMITHFIELD21st January 2011 The Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers has announced a new major beef feature at the Dairy Event and Livestock Show to be held on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 September at The NEC, Birmingham. Called NEW SMITHFIELD, the initiative which is being developed in partnership with The Royal Smithfield Club, was unveiled at a media briefing in London last week.
NEW SMITHFIELD will be staged in the two acre Livestock Hall alongside the National All Breeds Show for dairy cattle which is being incorporated for the first time in to the Dairy Event and Livestock Show. The Royal Smithfield Club will provide technical advice and guidance to visitors, while RABDF will be fully responsible for organising and financing NEW SMITHFIELD. “We are delighted to introduce NEW SMITHFIELD to the event,” commented RABDF chief executive, Nick Everington. “RABDF is aware of the current state of the beef sector and the negative margins virtually all enterprises are making at present which in turn are depressing total farm incomes. NEW SMITHFIELD will offer in depth technical, financial and business information to help its members, other dairy producers and indeed all farmer visitors with beef enterprises improve their unit’s performance efficiency and ultimately, its sustainability.” Royal Smithfield Club chief executive, Geoff Burgess said: “This is a great opportunity for the Club to help create a major feature area dedicated to the production of quality primestock for the British meat industry. Our role is to highlight the very latest management thinking and technology available for the British livestock producer which will subsequently help their business’s profitability.”

NEW SMITHFIELD will feature two major activities inspired by RABDF
and targeted at all farmers with beef enterprises. The first will focus
on displays and practical demonstrations designed to improve physical
and technical performance within a beef unit, while the second will
offer comprehensive displays and commentary on increasing the market
value of finished cattle.
