Wigton Christmas Prize Show and Sale of Prime Cattle


Hopes Auction Co Ltd, Wigton held their Annual Christmas Prize Show and Sale of Prime Cattle on Saturday 27th November 2010. The Show was very kindly sponsored by CT Hayton Agricultural Engineers, Wigton, AW Jenkinson, Forest Products, J T Barton Bottlers, Nat West Bank and Clydesdale Bank

A wonderful show of cattle producing a show which would be one of the best seen here at Wigton. Judge Murray Hardy of Scotbeef Ltd commented upon the quality of cattle forward and the stocksman skills of our producers.
After some considerable time Mr Hardy eventually chose Ginger Spice, a 640 kgs Blue Heifer from Ian and Nathan Grainger, Kiln Croft, Glasson as Champion which realised 435p per kg and £2784.00 to Richard Harrison, Family Butcher, High Street, Wigton.

Reserve champion was awarded to Daniel Batty of Cobble Croft, Blennerhasset with a Limousin Steer which won the Young Handlers Class and then sold for 270p per kg and £1741.50. This is second year in succession that Daniel has won this Young Handlers class.
