Blue - Best Opposite Sex to the Champion

Hopes Auction Co Ltd, Wigton held their Annual Christmas Prize Show and
Sale of Prime Cattle on Saturday 24th November 2007. Credit should
be extended to exhibitors for an outstanding entry of Cattle. The
Show was very kindly sponsored by Clydesdale Bank, CT Hayton Agricultural
Services, Tynedale Farm Services, Greenhill Hotel, and The Golf Hotel.
Hopes Auction Co Ltd would like to extend grateful thanks to all who supported
what turned out to be a great day.
Enormous credit must go to the vendors
who really excelled in presenting a show of cattle many thought would be
hard to rival anywhere in the country.
Local Butchers and Restaurants were well to the fore with purchases being
made by-
Richard Harrison, Wigton who purchased the Champion Beast and the
Champion Lambs. Other local purchasers included The Greyhound Inn, Bothel,
Gavin Little, Penrith; Haigh’s, Workington; Tony Harrison, Cockermouth;
Mark Lindsay, Cockermouth; Stephen Wilson, Corby Hill. Jimmy Mulholland,
Great Orton. These together with buyers from Scotland and across the North
of England competed strongly to produce a very strong trade.
The cattle were judged by David Wright from Boston who awarded the Championship
to an outstanding Limousin heifer from young handler David Miller of Croodake
Mill, Waverton which made 450p per kg to Richard Harrison of Wigton.
The reserve champion was a Bazadaise cross Heifer shown by Nathan Grainger
from Kiln Close, Glasson which sold for 350p per kg and was purchased by
Robert Kirkhope.

The award for the Best Opposite Sex to the Champion was awarded to a British
Blue cross steer shown by JG & M Little of Greenhill Farm and was sold
for 195p per kg and was purchased by Haighs Workington Ltd.
The Best Bred by Exhibitor title was awarded to an outstanding Blonde cross
heifer shown by A Twentyman of Osborne Farm, Wigton which sold for 310p per
kg and purchased by Riley Bros.
