Blue - Best Opposite Sex to the Champion

12/12/2007

Hopes Auction Co Ltd, Wigton held their Annual Christmas Prize Show and Sale of Prime Cattle on Saturday 24th November 2007. Credit should be extended to exhibitors for an outstanding entry of Cattle. The Show was very kindly sponsored by Clydesdale Bank, CT Hayton Agricultural Services, Tynedale Farm Services, Greenhill Hotel, and The Golf Hotel.

Hopes Auction Co Ltd would like to extend grateful thanks to all who supported what turned out to be a great day.

Enormous credit must go to the vendors who really excelled in presenting a show of cattle many thought would be hard to rival anywhere in the country.

Local Butchers and Restaurants were well to the fore with purchases being made by-

Richard Harrison, Wigton who purchased the Champion Beast and the Champion Lambs. Other local purchasers included The Greyhound Inn, Bothel, Gavin Little, Penrith; Haigh’s, Workington; Tony Harrison, Cockermouth; Mark Lindsay, Cockermouth; Stephen Wilson, Corby Hill. Jimmy Mulholland, Great Orton. These together with buyers from Scotland and across the North of England competed strongly to produce a very strong trade.

The cattle were judged by David Wright from Boston who awarded the Championship to an outstanding Limousin heifer from young handler David Miller of Croodake Mill, Waverton which made 450p per kg to Richard Harrison of Wigton.

The reserve champion was a Bazadaise cross Heifer shown by Nathan Grainger from Kiln Close, Glasson which sold for 350p per kg and was purchased by Robert Kirkhope.
