SUCCESS FOR THE “BLUES” AT NEWARK

Regular consignors, Messrs. Page Bros of Rugby, took the Championship prize, at the Christmas Primestock Show, held at Newark Livestock Market on 5th December 2007.

They brought forward a marvelous, homebred British Blue heifer, sired by their very successful stock bull, Tamhorn Ringmaster. She weighed in at 543kgs and made 440p per kilo, which grossed £2389.20. This 14 month old heifer, had been destined for the British Blue Society sale, at Chelford in September, which unfortunately had to be cancelled.

Mr. Richard Taylor of Leabrooks, Derbyshire had the difficult task of judging the cattle, with quality in abundance and the successful purchaser’s were David & Chris Wright, trading as Messrs. A Wright & Sons of Boston.

Chris Wright then went on to judge the Commercial Butchers Class and again the quality was amazing. The Champion was won by Frank Page making it a fantastic one, two! Again, a homebred British Blue heifer, which weighed 567kg and made 240p (£1360) to the Judge. Reserve Champion was won by Newark regulars - Joe, Hazel and Jane Gilbert who sold a Homebred British Blue steer weighing 629kgs and made 160p (£1006.00) and bought by Richard Taylor.
