Belgian Blue crosses take Store Cattle ChampionshipsCarlisle Show and Sale of Continental cross Store Cattle The Friday began with master judge, Ian Wildgoose of Chesterfield, being presented with over 60 quality heifers for judging.
The Royal Bank of Scotland perpetual trophy was presented to Andrew Kirkbride of Flimby for his Belgian Blue cross heifer which was sired by the registered bull, Ballyclough Ullysses and bred from a Limousin cross mother. Signing the cheque at £2,600 was Alan Hall of Preston Tilery, Darlington. Conducting the judging on Saturday was expert feeder Tom Barton of Ashton in Makerfield, Wigan.
He awarded the championship to a Belgian Blue consigned by Christine Williams of DA Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire. Her entry was sired by the homebred bull Wilodge Ulex and was out of a Limousin cross show heifer which has already produced the 2003 Smithfield Baby Beef Champion.
