Blues Top 10,000gns Twice at Carlisle Spring Show & Sale

British Blue breeders enjoyed a successful day's trading at the Border British Blue Club's Twenty-eighth Annual Spring Show & Sale at Carlisle on Saturday 19th May 2018 when Almeley Kendrick ET (lot 2) shown by GL Morgan & Solway View Levi ET (Lot 50) sold for the joint top price of 10,000gns.

Kendrick was the second bull through the ring from the Drybarrows Cawdale & Rosemount Faith flush. This September 2015 born bull sold to JR Cussons & Son, Morrra Head Farm, Scarborough.

Also on 10,000gns from Kevin Watret was Solway View Levi ET, who stood first in his class and one of four Superior Carcase Sire Bulls in the sale, with 400-day growth rates in the top 5% of the breed and Carcase Profitability figure of +18 (Breed average +12), this October 2016 born son of the Solway View Firecracker & Bringlee Evadine flush sold to RA Cadzow, Inland Pasture Farm, Berwick upon Tweed. Kevin also wins the 'Brian Wheatley Memorial Trophy'for the highest priced animal owned by a member of the Border British Blue Club.

A further 5 bulls all sold at 6,000gns or above with a clearance of 87% for the bulls.Topping the females at 4,500gns was Richard Tiplady's Tipladys Malibu (lot 85).

The judge, Will McLaren, Muirhouses, Kirriemuir, Angus had the task of judging the 9 classes and championships the day prior to the sale. The supreme champion, Stonebyres Minstrel (lot 64) offered by Blair & Shona Comrie left the sale ring unsold.

Next in the price ratings, was our Senior Male Champion, Top Side Lewis (lot 25) from Ross & Elaine Pattinson. An exceptionally powerful 2 year old bull by Naby Golddust ET and out of the homebred cow Lexis Hottie by Boherard Cantona ET. He was purchased as a half share by A & F Baillie, Low Glasnick Farm, Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart & A & J Baillie, Challochglass, Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart.

Also on 8,000gns, was Luce Water Lionking ET from Ben Haigh. An eye-catching 21 month old black & white bull from the Solway View Firecracker & Stowbeck Freda ET flush. He stood fourth in his class and goes to Raine & Davidson, Thorney Gale, Kirkby Stephen.

Also hitting the high spots on 7,000gns, was Almeley Lallana (lot 22) from GL Morgan, a 23 month old bull by Pinnacle Hero ET and out of their homebred cow Goodlooking. Lallana stood third in his class and was knocked down to EA Davies & Son, Upper Court Farm, Hereford.

Two bull entries sold for 6,000gns each, AM & E Hartley's Pendle Lion Heart (lot 36) was first through the ring. He had stood 2nd in his class. Lion Heart a 21 month old blue roan bull, by Jalon de Martinpre and out of Pendle Glitzy ET was knocked down to W Robertson & Son, Fodderletter, Ballindalloch.

Also selling at the same price was Goodyhills Maverick (lot 63) shown by Neil & Irene Armstrong. This 16 month old son of Stonebyres Hartley and out of their homebred cow Isabella was sold to Liam Yewdale, Atkinson's Wood & Drummer, Great Ayton, Cleveland.

The leading female price went to Richard Tiplady for his 1st prize winning heifer Tipladys Malibu (lot 85). This stylish 11 month old heifer by Tweeddale Ironman and out of his homebred J Taime ET was sold for 4,500gns to J Crowther, Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire.

Next on 4,000gns was the first prize winning heifer, female champion and winner of the Challenge Trophy for the best animal opposite sex to the champion. Black N Blue Lady Llloyd (lot 72) from Neil & Sally Lloyd, a 2 year old heifer by Jiosco de Focant and out of Black N Blue Empress sold to SJ Balfour, Foddderletter, Ballindalloch.
